The Amazon rainforest, often called the 'lungs of the Earth,' produces approximately 20% of the world's oxygen. However, recent studies suggest this figure may be overstated. While the rainforest does produce vast amounts of oxygen through photosynthesis, it also consumes nearly all of it through respiration and decomposition. Scientists now estimate that the net oxygen contribution is closer to 6–9% of global production.
